Some kids DO have more biblical knowledge from consistent church background. Some families ARE more outwardly religious. He sees the 'good Christian kids' get praised and opportunities while feeling like an imposter. His own struggles with faith and behavior make their apparent perfection feel unattainable.
The thief had ZERO Bible knowledge, no baptism, no church attendance, no good works, couldn't even bow his head—just 'remember me.' Jesus gave him instant PARADISE that same day—complete salvation with zero religious performance, proving righteousness is GIFT not achievement.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm less spiritual than other Christians. IT IS WRITTEN: Righteousness comes by FAITH, not by works of the law. The thief on the cross had no Bible knowledge but got PARADISE instantly. The tax collector's 'have mercy' beat the Pharisee's perfection. IT IS WRITTEN: I am the righteousness of God in Christ—that's POSITION, not performance. The BARAK blessing didn't require spiritual disciplines—it protected LIARS and MURDERERS by covenant. I am Abraham's seed, complete in Christ, lacking NOTHING. The Father ran to the prodigal who had ZERO spirituality—just desperation.
The Father isn't comparing your spiritual resume to anyone else's—He sees you IN CHRIST, wrapped in HIS righteousness, not your religious performance. Like the thief getting paradise with zero qualifications, your acceptance is INSTANT and complete based on faith alone.
