"I'm all alone now. Everyone I loved is gone and nobody really visits anymore."
How it sounds in your head: Your husband is gone. Your friends have passed away. Your children have their own busy lives and the visits get shorter and less frequent. You sit in silence for hours and the loneliness aches deeper than any physical pain. The enemy whispers that you've been forgotten and abandoned by everyone.
"For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
-- Hebrews 13:5World values youth and activity, making the elderly invisible and isolated, forgotten in the margins.
The chair beside you is empty. The phone doesn't ring as much. You can go days without meaningful conversation and the isolation is crushing.
Elijah felt utterly alone, convinced he was the only faithful one left, hiding in a cave in despair. God asked 'What are you doing here?' and then revealed Himself in a still small voice - not abandoning Elijah in his isolation but meeting him intimately in it.
I REFUSE the lie that I am alone or forgotten. IT IS WRITTEN that God will NEVER leave me nor forsake me - not 'sometimes' or 'maybe' but NEVER. The Father's presence doesn't diminish with age or fade when others are busy. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 68:6, 'God sets the solitary in families' - He sees my loneliness and His heart is moved with compassion. Even if every human forgets to visit, the Father's attention never wavers. Like Elijah in the cave, I am not as alone as I feel - God is present in the still small voice, the gentle whisper, the constant companionship of the Holy Spirit. The BARAK blessing includes divine companionship, and I receive the Father's presence now, filling every empty chair and silent hour.
The Father sees you in that quiet room and His heart breaks with compassion. He doesn't leave you to your loneliness - He sits in the chair beside you, speaks in the silence, and holds you when the ache feels unbearable.
