"I'll die alone with no one to take care of me in old age."
How it sounds in your head: You watch your married friends navigate aging parents together. Who will make your medical decisions? Who will visit you in the hospital? You imagine dying alone in some facility with no family at your bedside. The terror is visceral and constant.
"And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed."
-- Deuteronomy 31:8Fear: projects current aloneness into catastrophic future scenarios, making singleness synonymous with abandonment and death.
Statistics about elderly people dying alone are real. You've seen it happen. Married people genuinely do have built-in support systems. The practical fear has legitimate basis.
Elijah was utterly alone, suicidal, hiding in the wilderness wanting to die. God sent an angel with food and water—provision in isolation. Not eventually. Immediately. Then God Himself showed up in the still small voice. Alone in geography, never alone in presence.
I REFUSE the lie that I will die alone and abandoned. IT IS WRITTEN: The LORD will be with me, will NEVER leave nor forsake me. He goes BEFORE me into my future—already there, already arranging provision. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, in the city and in the field. The BARAK blessing includes divine protection and provision. Elijah alone in the wilderness had angelic care. I am never alone. God WITH me is my guarantee.
Father is not watching you age alone, shrugging at your inevitable solitary death. He's running toward you—into your future, into your old age, into every hospital room—as Immanuel, God WITH you, who has never left you for one second and never will, arranging provision you cannot yet see.
