"I'll be a burden to my children in retirement—I failed to plan well enough."
How it sounds in your head: You swore you'd never be the aging mother who needs help from her kids. But the numbers say otherwise. You imagine becoming the financial drain, the obligation, the guilt-inducing elder. You'd rather die early than burden them. The shame of 'not planning well enough' eats at you.
"I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread."
-- Psalm 37:25Enemy using shame and pride to make you believe your worth is tied to financial independence instead of covenant sonship and generational blessing.
You see other women your age who 'did it right'—they're secure, independent. You're not. Your kids have their own financial pressures. You fear becoming the reason they can't retire or help their own kids.
Naomi returned to Bethlehem broke, widowed, bitter, calling herself 'Mara' (bitter). She had NOTHING to offer Ruth. Yet God provided a kinsman redeemer, abundance, and placed her in the Messianic line—not because she 'planned well' but because of covenant faithfulness.
I REFUSE the lie that I'll be a burden because I didn't save enough. IT IS WRITTEN that the righteous are not forsaken, nor their descendants begging bread—that includes me and my children. I reject shame over my financial position. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 there is NO condemnation for those in Christ. The barak blessing is generational—it covers me AND my children with provision and protection. God doesn't measure my worth by my retirement account. I am His beloved daughter, and He works all things together for my good. My children are blessed because I am blessed. I am not a burden—I am a carrier of covenant blessing.
The Father doesn't see you as the 'failed planner'—He sees you as the daughter He's about to showcase His provision through, so your kids can witness that He truly does supply all needs. You're not the burden; you're the testimony.
