"I'll always be 'the cancer survivor' — even in remission, the disease still owns me."
How it sounds in your head: You beat it, but it still defines you. Every ache makes you wonder if it's back. You're in the 'survivor' support group. Your identity shifted from 'man' to 'survivor,' and even victory feels like ongoing captivity to the diagnosis.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Enemy strategy to keep you bound to what Jesus already defeated, making you identify with past battles instead of present victory.
The medical establishment keeps you in 'survivor' category for years, with constant monitoring and reminders. The experience was so intense it rewired how you see yourself.
He was DEAD for four days, body decomposing, wrapped in grave clothes — death had completely consumed his identity. Jesus shouted 'Lazarus, come forth!' and he came out IMMEDIATELY alive, and Jesus said 'Loose him, and let him go' — completely freed from death's claim, not 'death survivor' but RESURRECTED.
I REFUSE the lie that any past disease owns my identity. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a NEW creation — old things PASSED AWAY, all things became new. I am not defined by what I survived but by whose I AM. Cancer, sickness, disease — these are old things that have NO CLAIM on my present identity. IT IS WRITTEN that I overcome by the blood of the Lamb, and that blood speaks BETTER THINGS than any diagnosis. I am blessed with the blessing of Abraham, which includes protection and wholeness, and I walk in resurrection life as a son of God, not a perpetual patient.
The Father sees you still wearing 'survivor' labels like grave clothes, and He's shouting like He did over Lazarus: 'LOOSE HIM AND LET HIM GO!' He's not keeping you in the survivor category — He made you a NEW CREATION, completely freed from the past, running toward you with a fresh robe that says 'BELOVED SON,' not 'cancer survivor.'
