"If they loved me, they wouldn't have hidden financial problems from me."
How it sounds in your head: Love is transparent. Love doesn't hide. You shared everything—your fears, your body, your life. They hid credit cards like an affair. The financial secrecy feels like proof they never truly loved you, or the love died somewhere along the way. Real love wouldn't do this.
"Love does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil."
-- 1 Corinthians 13:5Enemy defining love by performance not covenant, making behavior the measure of value.
Hidden finances feel identical to hidden affairs—same secrecy, same lies, same betrayal. If they truly loved and respected you, honesty would have been automatic. The hiding feels like evidence of love's absence.
Peter denied Jesus three times, publicly, with curses, claiming 'I never knew Him'—ultimate relational betrayal of the One he claimed to love most. Jesus didn't demand probation or trust-rebuilding. He immediately restored Peter, gave him leadership over the church, and asked 'Do you love Me?' three times—instant restoration, no process, full authority returned immediately after proven betrayal.
I REFUSE the lie that hidden finances prove absent love. IT IS WRITTEN that love thinks no evil—I'm called to IMAGE Christ's love, not audit my spouse's perfection. Peter denied Jesus and was INSTANTLY restored to leadership with no probation period. The Barak blessing protected Abraham through Sarah's repeated deceptions because covenant trumps behavior. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 5:8 'While we were YET SINNERS, Christ died for us'—He loved BEFORE we loved back, BEFORE we cleaned up. I declare 1 Corinthians 13:5 over my marriage—love doesn't keep score of wrongs, doesn't demand perfect transparency to GIVE love. Their hiding was FEAR, not hate. My loving is covenant, not conditional. Christ loved me while I was HIDING from Him. I love because HE first loved.
The Father knows the hiding felt like hate, like you weren't worth honesty. He's not defending the lies or minimizing the pain. He's whispering, 'You hid from Me in gardens, in religion, in shame—I chased you anyway. Peter denied Me publicly—I gave him the keys to the church immediately. Their hiding is fear of your reaction, not absence of love.' The prodigal didn't come clean voluntarily—he came home FORCED by hunger, probably still planning to hide things. Father ran anyway. Ring. Robe. Party. Before full disclosure. That's love. That's your model.
