"If I was really a good Christian, I'd have peace and wouldn't struggle with sleep."
How it sounds in your head: I pray before bed, I read my Bible, but I still lie awake anxious. Maybe my faith isn't strong enough. Maybe I'm doing something wrong spiritually that's blocking God's peace. Good Christians probably don't have insomnia.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Religious spirit teaching that struggles equal spiritual failure, making sleep problems evidence of insufficient faith rather than opportunity for grace.
She's doing the 'right' Christian things but not seeing results. It feels like other girls who seem more spiritual probably don't have these problems, making her faith feel defective.
Elijah just called down fire from heaven, killed 450 prophets, outran a chariot—peak spiritual performance. Next scene? Suicidal, exhausted, hiding under a tree saying, 'I've had enough, let me die.' God's response? Fed him, let him sleep, fed him AGAIN, let him sleep AGAIN. No rebuke—pure TENDERNESS to a struggling prophet.
I REFUSE the lie that struggles disqualify me. IT IS WRITTEN that while I was STILL A SINNER, Christ died for me—my sleep problems don't change His love. Romans 8:1 says there is NO CONDEMNATION for those in Christ—not 'no condemnation for well-rested Christians.' I'm righteous by His blood, not by my sleep score. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 12:9, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' My sleepless nights are where His STRENGTH shows up, not where His love leaves. The Barak blessing covered Abraham when he LIED—twice. It covered Jacob when he DECEIVED. It covers me when I struggle. I am blessed not because I'm perfect but because I'm COVENANT. Good Christians are simply ones who receive grace, not ones who never struggle.
Your Father doesn't have a 'good Christian' checklist where sleep quality determines your spiritual grade. He sees you through Jesus' perfection, not your performance, and your sleepless nights make Him run TOWARD you with compassion, not away in disappointment. While religion hands you a report card, your Father hands you the robe, the ring, and throws a party—because you're His daughter, and that has never depended on your sleep patterns.
