"If I was attractive enough, this wouldn't be so hard."
How it sounds in your head: Good-looking guys don't struggle like this. Women pursue them. I'm average at best and every interaction feels like an uphill battle. My appearance is the problem I can't fix.
"But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'"
-- 1 Samuel 16:7World's worship of physical appearance as primary determinant of value and attraction.
You see guys who seem effortlessly successful in dating and they're all conventionally attractive. Every self-improvement article talks about hitting the gym, dressing better, improving your look. The message is clear: your face/body is the liability.
Scripture says Leah had weak eyes (not attractive) while Rachel was beautiful. Yet Leah, the 'unattractive' one, became the mother of Judah—the Messianic line came through the one considered less desirable, proving God's choices transcend appearance.
I REFUSE the lie that my appearance is a barrier to God's blessing. IT IS WRITTEN that the LORD looks at the heart, not outward appearance. I am made in the image of God Almighty, and that is the only image that matters. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 139:14 that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. The BARAK blessing isn't for the genetically gifted—it covered Jacob the schemer, Moses the stutterer, David the runt. I declare the woman God brings will see me through His eyes, not the world's. The Father is running toward me with someone who treasures the heart He gave me.
The Father isn't looking at you wishing you were taller or more handsome—He's celebrating the son He made exactly as you are. He's running toward you with a woman who will see you the way He does: precious beyond measure.
