"If I truly understood how bad my sin was, I couldn't forgive myself."
How it sounds in your head: You've convinced yourself that self-forgiveness equals minimizing sin. 'If I really grasped the weight, the damage, the evil—I'd never let myself off the hook. Only shallow people forgive themselves.'
"But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more."
-- Romans 5:20Source: Religion taught you depth of conviction proves spirituality—the more you hate yourself, the more you love God, making self-condemnation a virtue.
Deep awareness of sin feels spiritual. You've seen teaching that says 'broken and contrite heart'—surely that means permanent brokenness over past sin proves you're taking it seriously.
Denied Jesus THREE times, cursed and swore he didn't know Him while Jesus was being beaten. Jesus' response after resurrection: made him breakfast, restored him with three questions, gave him the keys to the church—IMMEDIATE reinstatement.
I REFUSE the lie that understanding my sin means permanent self-hatred. IT IS WRITTEN: Where sin ABOUNDED, grace abounded MUCH MORE—I have not out-sinned the cross. The depth of my failure is the STAGE for the depth of His grace. IT IS WRITTEN in 1 Timothy 1:15: 'Christ Jesus came into the world to save SINNERS, of whom I am chief'—Paul understood his sin AND his forgiveness. Both. I am FORGIVEN. The BARAK protected murderers and liars—not because sin didn't matter, but because COVENANT matters more. I am FREE.
Peter understood EXACTLY what he'd done—cursed, denied, abandoned Jesus at His darkest hour. Jesus made him BREAKFAST. Restored him. Gave him the church. Your depth of awareness is the SETUP for your depth of freedom.
