"If I really understood how bad my sin was, I couldn't forgive myself"
How it sounds in your head: You're letting yourself off easy because you're minimizing it. If you really grasped the full weight of what you did—how you hurt her, how you betrayed trust, how you damaged your witness—you'd see that self-forgiveness is actually arrogance.
"He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea."
-- Micah 7:19Source: Religion's twisted theology that magnifies sin above the cross—the enemy trying to make your sin more powerful than Jesus' sacrifice.
Because your sin does have real weight and real consequences, and minimizing it feels dishonest. Because the enemy distorts true conviction into toxic shame, making you believe that truly understanding sin means staying condemned.
David committed ADULTERY with Bathsheba, got her PREGNANT, then MURDERED her husband to cover it up—abuse of power, betrayal, murder. When confronted, he repented, and God IMMEDIATELY forgave him. Yes, there were consequences, but God called him 'a man after My own heart' AFTER this sin and kept him in the Messianic line. Full understanding of sin didn't prevent full forgiveness.
I REFUSE the lie that understanding my sin means staying condemned. IT IS WRITTEN that God cast ALL sins into the depths of the sea—He FULLY understands the weight, and He FULLY removed it. God knows EXACTLY how bad it was, and He STILL calls me righteous. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:33-34 that it is GOD who justifies—who can condemn? If the Judge declares me righteous, my own verdict is irrelevant. I stand in the BARAK blessing that covered MURDERERS like Jacob's sons and ADULTERERS like David—the covenant was never based on the smallness of sin but the greatness of grace. I am a BRANCH in the VINE, and the same grace that covered David's adultery and murder covers me. True understanding of sin leads to AWE at His grace, not refusal to receive it. I am forgiven FULLY because HE paid FULLY.
The Father sees the full weight of what you did—He's not naïve or dismissive—and with FULL knowledge, He still runs toward you with the robe and ring. His forgiveness isn't based on underestimating your sin; it's based on His Son's complete payment, which He considers fully sufficient.
