"If I really loved God, I wouldn't have done this in the first place."
How it sounds in your head: My sin proves I don't love Him enough. If I truly cared, I would have made the right choice. My failure reveals my heart doesn't really belong to Him.
"So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, 'Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?' He said to Him, 'Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.' He said to him, 'Feed My lambs.' He said to him again a second time, 'Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?' He said to Him, 'Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.' He said to him, 'Tend My sheep.' He said to him the third time, 'Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?' Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, 'Do you love Me?' And he said to Him, 'Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.' Jesus said to him, 'Feed My sheep.'"
-- John 21:15-17Performance-based love teaching that equates obedience with affection, making her believe sin cancels out her love for God.
She's been taught that love equals perfect behavior, so any failure feels like proof she doesn't truly love God. Her sin becomes evidence against her heart.
Peter denied Jesus THREE TIMES with cursing after swearing he'd die for Him. Yet Jesus looked at him with love, restored him fully after the resurrection, and made him the foundation of the early church. His failure didn't disqualify his love.
I REFUSE the lie that my failure proves I don't love God. IT IS WRITTEN that after Peter's worst failure, Jesus restored him and gave him an assignment. My sin doesn't cancel my love for God. IT IS WRITTEN that even Paul struggled with doing what he didn't want to do. I am not defined by my worst moment. The BARAK blessing rests on me by covenant, not by my ability to perform perfectly. I love God, and He knows it.
The Father isn't questioning your love because you stumbled—He's looking you in the eye asking, 'Do you love Me?' and when you say yes, He's handing you an assignment, not a rejection letter. Peter's denial didn't disqualify him.
