"Forgiving myself would be letting myself off the hook too easily"
How it sounds in your head: You need to face consequences. Forgiving yourself is a cop-out. Real accountability means staying hard on yourself. You'd be cheating if you just moved on. Men don't take the easy way out.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
-- Ephesians 2:8-9Enemy disguising self-punishment as integrity, making grace look like weakness and condemnation look like strength.
He's been taught that difficulty equals legitimacy, so easy forgiveness feels like moral shortcuts instead of recognizing it's what Jesus already paid for.
Naaman had incurable leprosy and wanted a dramatic difficult cure to prove its legitimacy. Elisha told him to just dip in the river seven times. Naaman was OFFENDED by how easy it was and almost missed his healing because it didn't feel hard enough.
I REFUSE the lie that easy forgiveness is illegitimate forgiveness. IT IS WRITTEN that salvation is a GIFT, not of works—God's best gifts often offend human pride by being TOO EASY. The CROSS was the hard part—Jesus already did that so I could receive the free gift. IT IS WRITTEN in John 19:30 that Jesus said IT IS FINISHED—not "you finish it with self-punishment." I am SEED OF ABRAHAM under BARAK blessing where blessing came by PROMISE not performance. I receive the gift without adding my suffering to His completed work.
Your Father isn't impressed by you making salvation harder than Jesus made it—He's waiting for you to receive the gift He already wrapped. The prodigal didn't earn his way back through suffering; the Father RAN to him while he was still far off and threw a party immediately.
