"If I need therapy or medication, it means my faith isn't strong enough"
How it sounds in your head: Everyone at church talks about 'prayer over Prozac' like medication is the enemy of faith. I feel like I'm failing spiritually because I can't just pray this away. If I was really close to God, I wouldn't need help.
"Jesus answered them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.'"
-- Luke 5:31Religion twisted grace into performance, making medical help a sign of spiritual failure instead of God's provision.
She sees Christians post about 'Jesus is my therapist' and feels condemned for needing professional help. The church culture celebrates emotional stoicism as spiritual maturity, making vulnerability feel like weakness.
Timothy had frequent stomach problems and physical ailments. Paul didn't tell him to pray harder—he told him to 'use a little wine for your stomach's sake,' prescribing actual medical intervention without spiritual condemnation.
I REFUSE the lie that needing help means weak faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus validated physicians, and Paul prescribed medical treatment to Timothy without shame. My brain is an organ like my heart or lungs—treating it is wisdom, not failure. IT IS WRITTEN in Luke 5:31 that the sick NEED physicians, and Jesus celebrated that, not condemned it. I am Abraham's seed, heir according to promise, and the BARAK blessing includes wholeness in every area. The Father is RUNNING toward me with resources, not standing back waiting for me to fix myself.
The Father sent doctors, counselors, and medication as GIFTS of His provision, not Plan B for failed faith. He's celebrating your courage to seek help, not judging you for needing it—just like He wrapped the prodigal in robes while he still smelled like pigs.
