"If I let people close, they'll just hurt me like everyone else did - it's not worth it."
How it sounds in your head: Every time I've opened up, I've been disappointed. My ex-husband. That church friend. Even my own children don't understand me. Why set myself up for more pain? I'll just keep conversation surface-level and protect what's left of my heart.
"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love."
-- 1 John 4:18Trauma-based lie weaponizing past pain to prevent present connection and future healing.
Real relational wounds have accumulated, and pattern recognition suggests vulnerability equals pain. Limited time makes risk feel inefficient.
Mephibosheth was crippled, hiding in fear, expecting King David to kill him (as kings normally killed rival heirs). Instead, David RESTORED all Saul's land to him and made him eat at the king's table permanently like one of his own sons - instant elevation from hiding to honor, ALL because of covenant.
I REFUSE the lie that vulnerability equals destruction. IT IS WRITTEN that perfect love casts out fear - and I am IMMERSED in the Father's perfect love RIGHT NOW. My safety is not in walls but in His love that shields me. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, protected by the BARAK covenant that covered Abraham even when OTHERS lied. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. People's capacity to hurt me doesn't define my worth - the Father's capacity to heal me does. I am FREE to love because I am SECURE in His love.
The Father doesn't say 'protect yourself until people prove they're safe.' He says 'Rest in MY safety while I teach you to love like I love - freely, fully, without fear of loss.' You don't have to manage people's capacity to hurt you. You just have to trust HIS capacity to heal you.
