"If I let someone close again, I'll just get hurt worse. The risk isn't worth it."
How it sounds in your head: Last time almost destroyed me. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, couldn't function for months. If I let someone in again and it happens again, I don't know if I'll survive it. Maybe it's better to just keep everyone at arm's length and avoid the possibility altogether.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
-- 2 Timothy 1:7Enemy threat that weaponizes past pain to prevent future connection, making fear the decision-maker instead of faith.
The memory of how devastating the last betrayal was makes the possibility of repeating it feel life-threatening. Risk assessment feels like wisdom.
Peter denied Jesus three times—the ultimate betrayal from His closest friend. After resurrection, Jesus didn't withdraw or build walls. He pursued Peter, restored him with three questions of love, and trusted him to feed His sheep. Jesus chose vulnerability again IMMEDIATELY.
I REFUSE the lie that the risk of connection will destroy me. IT IS WRITTEN that God has NOT given me a spirit of fear but of POWER, LOVE, and a SOUND MIND. I HAVE the strength to love again because HE is my strength, not my own resilience. The enemy wants me to believe I'm too fragile to survive another hurt, but IT IS WRITTEN that I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me. I walk in the BARAK blessing where I am above only and not beneath—including above fear's threats. I will NOT let past pain dictate my future. I am POWERFUL in Him, and I choose love over fear.
The Father sees your terror and isn't minimizing it. He's holding you and saying, 'I know it almost broke you. But you're stronger now than you think, and this time you won't walk through anything alone. I'm going with you, and I'll catch you if you fall.'
