"If I had enough faith, my prayers for my children would work"
How it sounds in your head: I've prayed for my daughter's marriage for 15 years. I've prayed for my son to return to church for a decade. If I really believed, they'd be restored by now. Other mothers see their kids saved—what's wrong with my faith?
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Religion made her responsible for other people's free will and blamed her faith for their choices.
She's heard testimonies of praying mothers whose prodigals returned, and teachers said 'whatever you ask in faith, believing, you will receive.' Her kids' continued rebellion feels like her prayer failure.
Samuel, the prophet who heard God's voice as a child, judge of Israel, raised sons who 'did not walk in his ways but turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.' The most godly parent in Israel couldn't control his sons' choices—parenting outcomes don't measure faith quality.
I REFUSE the lie that my children's choices measure my faith. IT IS WRITTEN that each person bears their own decisions—I cannot believe for someone with free will. Samuel's sons rebelled. God's own children (Israel) went prodigal repeatedly. My prayers are powerful and effective, but I don't control their timeline. I stand in the BARAK blessing—the covenant that held even when Abraham's choices were sinful, when Isaac's were deceptive, when Jacob's were manipulative. IT IS WRITTEN there is no condemnation for those in Christ. I am a faithful, righteous mother because of CHRIST IN ME, not my children's current condition. The Father celebrates me now.
The Father isn't grading your motherhood by your children's current spiritual state—He's celebrating your faithful prayers like treasure stored up. He has prodigals too, and it doesn't diminish His perfection or your worth.
