"If I can't feel God anymore, it means I never really knew Him at all."
How it sounds in your head: You used to feel something at worship nights and summer camp. Now it's just songs and words. Maybe those feelings were just emotions you confused for God, and you were fooling yourself the whole time.
"Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls—yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation."
-- Habakkuk 3:17-18Source: Religion that equates emotional experience with authentic faith, making feelings the measurement of relationship.
Your hormones are changing everything you feel, and spiritual emotions are no exception. When the feelings fade, you question whether any of it was real or just manufactured atmosphere.
Job lost everything—children, wealth, health—felt completely abandoned by God, and said 'Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.' He felt NOTHING but pain, questioned everything, yet his faith held not because of emotions but because of God's character, and God restored everything double.
I REFUSE the lie that absence of feelings means absence of faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Habakkuk worshiped when NOTHING was blooming and NOTHING felt good—choosing God's character over emotional experience. My faith isn't built on feelings; it's built on the FINISHED WORK of Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN that Job trusted God even feeling utterly forsaken, and God called him righteous. The BARAK blessing doesn't fluctuate with my emotions—it's COVENANT established by God's OATH. I am SECURE when I feel nothing, LOVED when emotions lie, and my relationship with God is based on HIS nature, not my feelings.
Your Father knows your feelings are all over the place right now with changing hormones and adolescence, and He's not measuring your relationship by emotional highs. He's running toward you in the flatness with steady, unchanging love that doesn't need goosebumps to be real, meeting you in the honest numbness with His actual presence.
