"I was too strict/too permissive and now they're paying the price."
How it sounds in your head: I can see now I was too controlling and didn't give them freedom to develop independence. Or I was too lenient and they have no boundaries. Either way, I got the balance wrong and they're struggling because of my approach. I should have parented differently.
"A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps."
-- Proverbs 16:9Enemy creating false dichotomy where every parenting style is wrong, ensuring you'll condemn yourself regardless of approach you took.
You can trace their current struggles to your parenting philosophy - if you'd been stricter they'd have more discipline, if you'd been gentler they'd be less anxious. The cause-effect feels obvious in hindsight.
Isaac openly favored Esau over Jacob, creating a toxic family dynamic of parental favoritism and sibling rivalry that led to deception and family fracture. Yet God's covenant blessing passed through JACOB, the less-favored son, and Jacob became ISRAEL. Isaac's flawed parenting approach didn't thwart God's sovereign plan - God accomplished His purpose THROUGH the mess.
I REFUSE the lie that my parenting approach - too strict or too permissive - determined my children's outcome. IT IS WRITTEN that I planned my way but the LORD directs their steps. God is bigger than my philosophy. I am a daughter of the King, not condemned by hindsight analysis. IT IS WRITTEN that He works ALL things together for good. My Father is sovereign over my children's lives - He's directing their steps regardless of whether I was too controlling or too lenient. The BARAK blessing covers my parenting mistakes.
The Father is running toward you with grace for your parenting style, not a critique of where you fell on the strictness spectrum. He's whispering, 'I'm sovereign over their development regardless of your approach,' while you're still agonizing over whether you should have been different.
