"I trusted and it destroyed me; never again will I open my heart."
How it sounds in your head: After 70 years of marriage, I discovered affairs. After raising them, my kids fight over my estate before I'm gone. Opening my heart led to devastation—closed is safer.
"Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."
-- Lamentations 3:22-23Trauma: The enemy uses your deepest wound as proof that vulnerability equals destruction, that hope is naive.
The pain is fresh even if the betrayal was years ago. She opened her heart fully and it was trampled. Every fiber screams that closed is survival.
God told Hosea to love an adulteress again, to mirror how God loves Israel despite betrayal. Hosea opened his heart AGAIN to Gomer—and became the picture of God's relentless, pursuing, never-give-up love that refuses to let betrayal have the final word.
I REFUSE the lie that opening my heart leads to destruction. IT IS WRITTEN that the LORD's compassions never fail and are new every single morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). What wounded me was human sin, not divine intention. My Father's heart is SAFE, His love is CERTAIN, His faithfulness is GREAT. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the blessed of the LORD, and no weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). I carry the BARAK blessing—protected, pursued, cherished. I declare: I open my heart to the One who has never betrayed it, and His love makes me whole.
The Father isn't asking you to risk with those who broke you—He's offering His own heart as the safe place yours was designed for. Like the Prodigal's father who kept the robe ready, YOUR Father has been preparing a place of total acceptance, zero judgment, infinite tenderness. He sees your closed heart and doesn't condemn it—He gently knocks, offering only love.
