"I spent inheritance money foolishly. My parents would be ashamed and I don't deserve more provision."
How it sounds in your head: Dad worked his whole life to leave you something and you blew it. Mom scrimped and saved and you squandered it. You dishonored their legacy. They're probably watching from heaven, disappointed. You deserve financial struggle now.
"He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities."
-- Psalm 103:10Religion creating shame around dishonoring parents through financial mismanagement, mixed with false belief that provision is earned through honoring legacy.
Inheritance carries emotional weight of parents' life work. Losing it feels like betraying their sacrifice and love, creating narrative that financial provision would dishonor their memory further.
Dishonored father by demanding inheritance early (cultural equivalent of wishing him dead), took everything, squandered it all on prostitutes and reckless living. Father didn't shame him or require him to 'earn back' trust—RAN to him, restored him completely, threw celebration party immediately.
I REFUSE the lie that mismanaging inheritance disqualifies me from provision. IT IS WRITTEN that God does NOT deal with me according to my sins or punish me according to my iniquities. The prodigal dishonored his father FAR worse—demanding early inheritance, squandering on prostitutes—yet received complete restoration and celebration. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO CONDEMNATION to those in Christ (Romans 8:1). My parents are with Jesus, FREE from disappointment. The BLESSING OF ABRAHAM is mine by COVENANT, not by perfect stewardship of past resources.
Your Father isn't punishing you for what you did with inheritance—He's the God who gave the wasteful prodigal the BEST robe, not a lesser one. Your parents, if they're with Him, see with heaven's eyes now and celebrate your restoration, not your mistakes.
