"I should just be grateful for what I have instead of asking God for more provision."
How it sounds in your head: When I start wishing for things to be different financially, I feel selfish. There are people way worse off than us. Maybe I should just be thankful for what we have and stop bothering God with requests for more. Isn't gratitude for little things what He wants from me?
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened."
-- Matthew 7:7-8Source: religious false humility that confuses contentment with settling, making requests for provision seem like ingratitude rather than faith.
Comparing her situation to extreme poverty makes her current lack seem like abundance she should celebrate. Asking for more feels ungrateful when others have less, and religious teaching has equated 'grateful for little' with spiritual maturity.
Blind beggar sitting by the road, people told him to be QUIET and stop bothering Jesus. He shouted LOUDER, refused to be silenced, kept asking. Jesus stopped, called him over, asked 'What do you want Me to do?', and IMMEDIATELY gave him sight—rewarded his persistent asking, not his quiet gratitude for blindness.
I REFUSE the lie that asking God for provision means I'm ungrateful. IT IS WRITTEN: Ask and it WILL be given, seek and you WILL find, knock and it WILL be opened—Jesus COMMANDS me to ask, and promises I WILL receive. Being grateful for what I have and asking for more are not opposites—they're both faith. God is not annoyed by my requests; He's a GOOD Father who delights when His children ask. IT IS WRITTEN that if earthly fathers give good gifts, how much MORE does my heavenly Father give to those who ask. The same Jesus who stopped for blind Bartimaeus shouting over the crowd stops for me. I ask BOLDLY, knowing my Father's nature is to GIVE, and I receive with JOY.
The Father doesn't see you as 'ungrateful girl asking for too much'—He sees His daughter exercising faith by asking, and He's running toward you with MORE than you asked for because generous giving is His nature. He's not waiting for you to prove you can be happy with less; He's waiting for you to ASK for more.
