"I should have made different choices when I was younger and now I'm paying for it."
How it sounds in your head: If only you'd chosen the other career, married differently, invested smarter, taken that risk. Your life would be completely different—better—if you'd just made the right calls. Now you're stuck with the consequences of decisions you can't undo, watching others live the life you should have had.
"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
-- Isaiah 43:18-19Religious performance teaching that present circumstances equal divine judgment for past choices, making you reap what you sowed instead of reaping what CHRIST sowed.
You can trace specific decisions to current limitations—that job you took, that relationship that ended, that investment you missed—and the alternate timeline haunts you. At 55, you see peers who chose differently living outcomes you wanted, making your 'wrong choices' feel permanently locked in.
Peter made the WORST choice at the worst time—denied Christ THREE TIMES after swearing he'd die first, proving himself a coward and liar when it mattered most. Jesus didn't make him earn restoration—He made him breakfast on the beach and INSTANTLY reinstated him to 'feed my sheep,' the exact leadership role Peter thought he'd forfeited.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm trapped by past choices or living under consequences I can't escape. IT IS WRITTEN that God does a NEW THING and it springs forth NOW—not after I've paid enough or proven enough. My Father makes ROADS IN WILDERNESSES and RIVERS IN DESERTS, turning my wrong turns into divine shortcuts. IT IS WRITTEN that if anyone is in Christ, he is a NEW CREATION—old things PASSED AWAY, all things BECOME NEW. I am under the BARAK blessing, the same covenant that protected Jacob the DECEIVER and made him Israel. My choices don't determine my destiny—my COVENANT does. I declare every 'wrong decision' redeemed, every alternate timeline IRRELEVANT, because God's plan for me is GOOD and His gifts are WITHOUT REPENTANCE. What I 'should have done' is NOTHING compared to what He's doing NOW.
The Father doesn't keep a ledger of your choices or compare your life to what 'could have been'—He sees only who you ARE in Christ, and He's running toward you with the RING of authority regardless of which road you took to get here. Your 'wrong turns' are simply the path by which you arrived at the party He's been preparing.
