"I should have done more for God; I wasted my life in mediocrity."
How it sounds in your head: I'm 90-something, near the end, and I look back—I didn't become a missionary, didn't plant churches, didn't do anything 'great' for God. I was just... ordinary. Did I waste the life He gave me? Will He be disappointed?
"For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."
-- Colossians 3:3Source: Religion defining 'successful Christian life' by visible ministry achievements instead of COVENANT SONSHIP.
He compares himself to preachers, missionaries, and 'heroes of faith,' and his quiet life feels insignificant by contrast. Performance metrics from church culture have defined his worth for decades.
Mary broke expensive perfume on Jesus' feet—a 'waste' according to disciples who wanted something 'useful' like feeding the poor. Jesus' response: 'She has done a BEAUTIFUL thing; wherever the gospel is preached, she will be REMEMBERED'—one act of private worship became eternal legacy.
I REFUSE the lie that my life was wasted or mediocre because I wasn't 'famous' for God. IT IS WRITTEN: 'My life is HIDDEN with Christ in God.' My value is not in VISIBILITY but in UNION. The Father doesn't measure by crowds or titles—He measures by FAITHFULNESS. IT IS WRITTEN: 'He who is faithful in little is faithful in much.' Every prayer I prayed, every day I worked with integrity, every moment I loved—those are NOT SMALL to God. I lived as a BRANCH attached to the VINE, and fruit came AUTOMATICALLY. I am not mediocre—I am HIS BELOVED SON, and my life is a FRAGRANCE to Heaven. The BARAK blessing has followed me, and my reward is INCORRUPTIBLE!
The Father isn't comparing you to anyone—He's REJOICING over you, celebrating every 'hidden' act of love as TREASURE, and preparing rewards you can't imagine for simple faithfulness you dismissed as ordinary. Like Mary's 'waste,' your quiet obedience is MEMORIAL in Heaven.
