"I should feel guilty asking God for things I want when kids in other countries don't have food."
How it sounds in your head: At church they showed videos of starving kids and said we're spoiled. Now I feel bad wanting new clothes or asking God for anything. Maybe I should suffer to be more grateful.
"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."
-- Psalm 37:4Source: Religious guilt manipulation using comparison to control and shame, contradicting the Father's generous nature.
She's empathetic and genuinely cares about suffering, but religion twisted that compassion into guilt about her own desires. The comparison makes any personal want feel selfish and wrong.
God told Solomon to ask for ANYTHING, and Solomon asked for wisdom. God gave him wisdom AND what he didn't ask for—riches and honor beyond measure, making him the wealthiest king ever—because God loves to exceed our requests.
I REFUSE the lie that my Father is stingy or offended by my desires. IT IS WRITTEN that He gives me the desires of my heart when I delight in Him! My asking doesn't take from others—He's infinitely abundant. The BARAK blessing isn't rationed or limited by someone else's need. IT IS WRITTEN in Ephesians 3:20 He does EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY above all I ask or think. I receive His generosity without guilt. My Father RUNS toward me with robes and rings, not lectures about being grateful enough.
Your Father isn't rolling His eyes at your desires—He put them IN you. He's the Dad who gives you the ring before you finish your apology speech, who throws parties, who wants you blessed coming AND going.
