"I should be grateful for what I have and stop wanting more."
How it sounds in your head: At my age, isn't it selfish to want more when so many have less? I should just be thankful I'm still here, still breathing, still able to pay bills. Contentment means accepting limitations and being grateful for small mercies. Wanting breakthrough sounds greedy and ungrateful.
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."
-- Ephesians 3:20Source: Religion disguising unbelief as humility, combined with culture that expects elderly to shrink desires and accept less.
The church has preached 'contentment' as code for 'stop expecting God to move,' and at your age, people applaud you for 'being realistic' instead of 'still chasing dreams.' It feels more spiritual to accept than to contend.
Jabez prayed 'Oh, that You would BLESS me indeed, and ENLARGE my territory'—he asked for MORE, not contentment with less—and God GRANTED his request. His 'selfish' prayer is recorded in Scripture as a MODEL, not a warning.
I REFUSE the lie that wanting more is greedy! IT IS WRITTEN that God is able to do EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY ABOVE all I ask or think—my desires are TOO SMALL, not too big! God COMMANDS me to open my mouth WIDE, and He will fill it. I am Abraham's seed, heir to the BARAK blessing of ABUNDANCE—head and not tail, above and not beneath! IT IS WRITTEN in John 10:10 that Jesus came to give me ABUNDANT life—not barely-getting-by life! I reject false humility that calls God's generosity 'too much' and declare ENLARGEMENT, INCREASE, and OVERFLOW NOW!
The Father is NOT impressed by you shrinking your desires to match your circumstances—He's MOVED when you expand your expectations to match HIS NATURE. Every time you ask for 'more,' He leans in and says 'FINALLY! I've been waiting for you to ask BIG enough for Me to show off!'
