"I resent the people I've served because they've taken everything and given nothing back."
How it sounds in your head: You've poured into people for decades and they've drained you dry. They call when they need you but disappear when you're struggling. You've given everything and they've taken without gratitude. The bitterness is eating you alive.
"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
-- Galatians 6:9Enemy twisted serving into transaction, making you expect return from people instead of receiving from God. Ministry became about getting instead of giving from overflow.
You can recount specific people who used you and moved on without a thank you. The emotional accounts are unbalanced and you feel robbed of years of your life by ungrateful people who've forgotten you now that you're older.
Obadiah hid and fed 100 prophets at his own expense during Jezebel's murderous reign, risking his life with no recognition. God recorded it and he's mentioned by name in Scripture forever - his reward wasn't from the prophets, it was from God.
I REFUSE the lie that I've given everything and gotten nothing back, or that people's ingratitude defines my reward. IT IS WRITTEN that in due season I SHALL reap if I don't lose heart, and my due season is NOW. IT IS WRITTEN God is not unjust to forget my work and labor of love. Every act of service is recorded in heaven and my reward comes from HIM, not people. I release the resentment and receive the harvest. The BARAK blessing of Abraham is my reward - supernatural favor, abundance, and honor that has nothing to do with people's gratitude. I declare I am entering my reaping season and the harvest is suddenly, shockingly abundant because HE is faithful even when people aren't.
The Father has been recording every act of service, every sacrifice, every late-night counseling session, every funeral, every hospital visit. None of it was lost. He's about to open the storehouses and pour out reward that has nothing to do with people's response - it's HIS response to your faithfulness.
