"I push people away because I'm afraid they'll see the real me and leave anyway."
How it sounds in your head: Better to keep them at arm's length than risk them getting close and discovering you're not worth staying for. Reject them before they reject you. It's safer.
"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love."
-- 1 John 4:18Pre-emptive rejection + trauma protection + fear of abandonment creating self-fulfilling prophecy.
He's been hurt before, seen people leave when they got too close. Pushing away first feels like control, like safety, even though it's lonely.
Doubted publicly, demanded proof, basically called the other disciples liars. Jesus didn't reject him or distance Himself—He showed up SPECIFICALLY for Thomas, invited him to touch His wounds, called him blessed.
I REFUSE the lie that I have to push people away for protection. IT IS WRITTEN that perfect love CASTS OUT fear—the Father's love for me isn't conditional on performance or exposure. I am fully known and fully loved. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God in Christ—there is no 'real me' that disqualifies me from belonging. The BARAK blessing means I am FAVORED, not feared. I am safe to be seen. Friendships that love the REAL me are coming.
The Father is running toward you with people who will STAY when they see the real you—while you're still building walls. He's preparing friends who see what He sees.
