"I never learned to be vulnerable; nobody wants to love a man who can't open his heart."
How it sounds in your head: You're 66 and still don't know how to talk about feelings. Your generation didn't do that. Now everyone wants emotional intimacy and you're a dinosaur. Women want men who 'do the work'—you don't even know what that means. You're too old to learn.
"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."
-- Romans 8:26Enemy weaponizing generational differences and therapy-culture demands to suggest love requires fluency in emotional vocabulary before pursuit begins.
Every relationship book, every counselor, every podcast talks about vulnerability like it's a prerequisite. You weren't taught this language. Learning at 66 feels humiliating and impossible.
Struck MUTE for nine months as discipline, couldn't speak at all, communicated by writing tablet—the moment he obeyed in writing his son's name, his mouth opened and he prophesied. God worked through him, blessed him, used him powerfully during TOTAL INABILITY to speak. Muteness didn't stop God's plan or love.
I REFUSE the lie that inability to be vulnerable disqualifies me from love. IT IS WRITTEN: the Spirit intercedes for me with groanings I CAN'T utter—God translates what I can't say, hears what I can't express. My Father isn't waiting for emotional fluency; He's RUNNING toward me in my silence, loving me through the groan, pursuing me when I have NO WORDS. I am Abraham's seed, blessed with the BARAK that never required articulation—just covenant. IT IS WRITTEN: there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. I am FULLY loved at 66, emotionally inarticulate and learning, still the BELOVED SON who makes the Father sing. He doesn't need my perfect vulnerability—He translates my groan into worship.
God used Zechariah powerfully while he was MUTE—couldn't speak at all, and still blessed, still loved, still central to the story. Your Father doesn't need your emotional vocabulary; He hears your HEART when your mouth has no words. He's pursuing you in the silence, loving you in the groan.
