"I need to wait until I have sustained victory before I can approach God confidently again."
How it sounds in your head: You can pray, sure. But don't expect answers. Don't expect intimacy. You're on probation. Come to God with your head down, apologetic, aware of your place. Wait until you've proven you've really changed—90 days clean, new habits established. Then maybe you can approach His throne with confidence. But not now. Not like this.
"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
-- Hebrews 4:16Old Covenant theology bleeding into New—treating the veil as if it's still there, requiring priestly mediation and clean hands before approaching, ignoring Hebrews' 'boldly approach the throne.'
Confidence feels presumptuous when he's fresh off failure—humility seems to require distance and hesitancy. Human authority figures require 'earning back trust,' so approaching God boldly feels arrogant, not faithful.
The prodigal didn't clean up at a halfway house before coming home—he came smelling like PIGS. He planned to grovel as a servant, but the Father didn't let him finish the speech. Robe, ring, sandals, party—INSTANT full restoration while he still reeked of the pig pen. No probation. No 'prove yourself' period. Access granted IMMEDIATELY.
I REFUSE the lie that I must wait for victory to approach God confidently. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews 4:16 that I come BOLDLY to the throne of grace to obtain mercy in my TIME OF NEED—not time of victory. The veil is TORN. I have boldness to enter by the blood of Jesus, not by my track record. IT IS WRITTEN that the prodigal was restored while still smelling like pigs—robe, ring, sandals, party—INSTANT access. I don't approach God based on my sustained sobriety; I approach based on His sustained faithfulness. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing gives me confidence NOW.
The Father isn't waiting for you to clean up before you come close—He's running toward you in the mess, because the throne of grace is specifically FOR the time of need, not the time of achievement.
