"I need to tithe perfectly and give sacrificially before God will bless me financially."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe if I give more or tithe exactly right, then God will open the windows of heaven. My giving must unlock His provision.
"And God is able to make all grace ABOUND toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work."
-- 2 Corinthians 9:8Old Covenant performance system applied to New Covenant believer, turning grace into transaction and God into vending machine.
He's heard Malachi 3:10 preached as a formula - tithe 10% and God will bless you. It sounds like a deal: you do your part, God does His. Feels achievable and controllable.
Zacchaeus gave away half his possessions AFTER Jesus declared 'Today salvation has come to this house' - his giving was a RESPONSE to grace received, not the KEY to unlock it. Jesus blessed him first.
I REFUSE the lie that my giving unlocks God's provision like a vending machine. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 9:8 that God makes all GRACE abound toward me - it's already flowing, not waiting for my tithe check. I'm not under Old Covenant Law but under New Covenant grace. Abraham tithed FROM blessing, not FOR blessing. Zacchaeus received salvation first, THEN gave generously as a response. IT IS WRITTEN in Galatians 3:13 that I'm blessed with Abraham's blessing by covenant, not by percentage compliance. I give joyfully from abundance because I'm already blessed, not manipulatively to trigger provision. God's windows are already open - Christ opened them at the cross.
The Father isn't holding provision hostage until your giving reaches a certain level. He already gave you JESUS - the floodgates opened at the cross. You give from the overflow of what He's already done, not to earn what He's withholding.
