"I need to sit out of leadership until I get my act together spiritually."
How it sounds in your head: How can you lead others when your own devotional life is inconsistent? When you're still battling the same sins? Real leaders have their lives in order first. You need to fix yourself before you can serve anyone else. Step back until you're actually walking the walk.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9-10Source: Religion demands leaders be disqualified by personal struggle, but God qualifies by calling, not by current performance.
You feel like a hypocrite leading a team meeting or mentoring someone when you privately know the battles you're losing. Integrity feels like withdrawing until you're actually living what you preach.
God called Gideon a 'mighty man of valor' while he was literally hiding in a winepress, terrified and doubting. Gideon argued he was the weakest in his family, from the weakest tribe—God said 'GO in this might of YOURS.' He led from weakness, not after getting strong.
I REFUSE the lie that I need to sit out until I get my act together. IT IS WRITTEN that God's strength is made perfect in WEAKNESS, and when I am weak, THEN I am strong. God doesn't call the qualified—He qualifies the called. Gideon led while hiding in fear. Moses led with a speech impediment. Paul led with a thorn in his flesh. My struggle doesn't disqualify me; it positions me to lead with GRACE instead of judgment. IT IS WRITTEN that God chose the weak things to shame the strong. I lead FROM weakness, not after conquering it. The BARAK blessing is not conditional on my spiritual performance—it's covenant. I am blessed, and I BLESS others, not because I have it together, but because I'm IN CHRIST.
The Father isn't waiting for you to clean up before leading—He's inviting you to lead FROM the mess, so others see HIS strength, not yours. The platform you think you're unqualified for is exactly where He wants to show that His grace is sufficient. You're not a hypocrite; you're a testimony that His power works in weakness.
