"I need to manage expectations; hoping for vitality at my age is setting myself up for disappointment."
How it sounds in your head: Be realistic. You're not twenty anymore. Better to accept what is than keep hoping for something that won't happen. Protecting yourself from disappointment is wisdom. Lower the bar.
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."
-- Ephesians 3:20Enemy strategy disguised as wisdom, using past disappointment to cap future faith and normalize defeat.
She's had prayers seemingly unanswered, hopes deferred, promises that felt unfulfilled. Protecting her heart from more disappointment feels like emotional survival.
Expert fisherman, fished ALL NIGHT, caught NOTHING—lowered expectations, accepted defeat. Jesus said 'try again'; Peter obeyed despite doubt, and caught SO MANY fish the nets broke and both boats nearly sank. From zero to abundance in one moment.
I REFUSE the lie that lowered expectations are wisdom. IT IS WRITTEN God is able to do EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY ABOVE all I ask or think—not meet my managed expectations but SHATTER them with abundance. Hope deferred may have made my heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of LIFE, and I receive fulfillment NOW. IT IS WRITTEN nothing is impossible with God—not 'some things' or 'reasonable things,' but NOTHING is impossible. The BARAK blessing doesn't do minimums; Abraham left Egypt RICHER after lying, Isaac became SO wealthy kings envied him. I expect ABUNDANCE because my Father is extravagant.
The Father isn't asking you to lower expectations to match your disappointments—He's inviting you to raise them to match His nature. While wisdom counsels 'be realistic,' He's loading your nets until they break with blessing.
