"I need to fix my eating and body issues before God can use me."
How it sounds in your head: You think God is waiting for you to get your act together—lose the weight, stop the binge eating, conquer the body image issues. Surely He can't use someone who struggles with food like you do. You need to clean up this area first.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Source: Religious spirit that makes ministry conditional on behavioral perfection, replacing grace with performance prerequisites.
You feel hypocritical trying to serve God while secretly struggling with food. How can you help others when you can't even control your own eating? It feels dishonest to minister from a place of ongoing struggle.
The Samaritan woman had five failed marriages and was currently living with a man—her life was a MESS. Jesus didn't make her fix everything first. IMMEDIATELY after their conversation, she ran to town and brought the whole city to Christ. Ministry happened FROM her mess, not after it.
I REFUSE the lie that I must fix my eating issues before God can use me. IT IS WRITTEN that His grace is sufficient and His strength is made PERFECT in weakness. God doesn't wait for me to overcome—His power shows up IN my weakness. IT IS WRITTEN that the woman at the well brought a city to Christ IMMEDIATELY, straight from her mess, with no cleanup period required. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing protected liars, deceivers, and murderers—it doesn't require perfection. I am the righteousness of God in Christ RIGHT NOW, food struggles and all. His power is perfected in my weakness.
Your Father isn't benching you until you get perfect—He's putting you in the game WITH your struggles because that's where His power shines brightest. The woman at the well evangelized a city five minutes after meeting Jesus, mess and all. He uses cracked pots on purpose so everyone knows it's His treasure inside, not your perfection.
