"I need to fight harder in prayer and fasting to overcome the enemy."
How it sounds in your head: You hear the testimonies—people who prayed for hours, fasted for weeks, and THEN saw breakthrough. You think maybe that's your problem. You're not fighting hard enough. If you just prayed longer, fasted more, battled harder in the spiritual realm, THEN you'd see victory.
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might."
-- Ephesians 6:10Works-based spiritual warfare that makes victory depend on intensity of YOUR effort rather than sufficiency of Christ's finished work.
The religious voices are LOUD on this one—'pray harder, fast longer, bind more demons.' When you're not seeing breakthrough, it seems logical that you need to increase effort. Plus it gives you something to DO instead of feeling helpless.
Asa faced an army of a MILLION men. His prayer was barely three sentences: 'Lord, help us, for we rest on You.' Not hours of fasting and binding. Simple dependence. God struck the enemy and they fled. Breakthrough came through trust, not spiritual athletics.
I REFUSE the lie that I need to fight harder to overcome. IT IS WRITTEN to be strong in the LORD and in the power of HIS might, not mine. Jesus said 'It is FINISHED' and I am not adding to completed work. Victory flows from union with Christ, not from intensity of effort. IT IS WRITTEN that this is the victory that overcomes the world—our FAITH. Not our fasting, not our prayer hours, not our spiritual warfare techniques. I rest in finished victory and enforce what Jesus already accomplished.
The Father isn't waiting for you to earn victory through spiritual performance—He's announcing that Jesus ALREADY won and you're simply believing what's already true. He's running toward you not with a training regimen but with the declaration that it's FINISHED and you can rest.
