"I need to feel forgiven before I can believe I'm forgiven"
How it sounds in your head: I know the theology, but it doesn't feel real until I feel it. My emotions are the litmus test for whether forgiveness has 'taken.' Until the shame lifts, I can't truly receive it.
"God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"
-- Numbers 23:19Source: Emotional reasoning culture that elevates FEELINGS over TRUTH—making God's declaration subordinate to your fluctuating emotions and giving your feelings veto power over Scripture.
Your emotional state feels like the most reliable indicator of reality—if you still feel guilty, it seems logical that you must still BE guilty. The disconnect between theological knowledge and emotional experience creates confusion about what's actually true.
Thomas said 'Unless I see and touch, I will not believe.' Jesus appeared and invited him to touch—but then said 'Blessed are those who have NOT seen and yet have believed.' Belief precedes feeling, and feeling without seeing is the higher faith.
I REFUSE the lie that my feelings validate or invalidate God's Word. IT IS WRITTEN that God is not a man that He should lie—if He SAID I'm forgiven, I AM forgiven, regardless of emotions. My feelings are not the judge of reality; His WORD is. I am righteous because He DECLARED me righteous, not because I feel it. IT IS WRITTEN that I walk by FAITH, not by sight—or by FEELING. I am learning to stand on His truth while my emotions catch up. The BARAK blessing didn't wait for Abraham to FEEL blessed—it was his REALITY even when circumstances said otherwise. I receive forgiveness as FACT, not as feeling, and I walk in the freedom He purchased.
The Father isn't waiting for your emotions to align before His declaration is true—He spoke you RIGHTEOUS while you were still a sinner, and your feelings don't get a vote. He's inviting you to believe His Word over your internal weather, knowing that when you stand on truth, peace eventually follows.
