"I need to fast, cleanse, or detox to get spiritually clean and reset my body."
How it sounds in your head: You've abused your body with bad food and need to purge it. A 40-day fast, a juice cleanse, something extreme to wipe the slate clean and prove your commitment. Your body is a temple and you've defiled it. Time to pay the price.
"To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled."
-- Titus 1:15Religious works-righteousness mixed with health culture creating performance-based purification rituals.
Fasting IS biblical. Your body DOES feel heavy and sluggish. The idea of a reset feels clean and righteous. Church culture often elevates fasting as the mark of serious believers.
The leper came to Jesus unclean, defiled, untouchable by law. He didn't have to fast, cleanse, or prepare. Jesus TOUCHED him while still leprous and said 'Be cleansed.' IMMEDIATELY the leprosy left. Cleansing was instant, by word, before any ritual or process.
I REFUSE the lie that I need to fast, cleanse, or detox to be spiritually clean or acceptable to God. IT IS WRITTEN in Titus 1:15 that to the pure all things ARE pure, and I AM pure in Christ through His blood, not my dietary rituals. My cleansing was finished at the cross once for all. IT IS WRITTEN in 1 Corinthians 6:11 that I WAS washed, I WAS sanctified, I WAS justified in the name of the Lord Jesus—past tense, finished work. The BARAK blessing declares I am already blessed, already approved, already in covenant favor. I don't earn cleansing through extreme measures. I receive what Jesus already accomplished. I am clean NOW because He declared it, not because I performed it.
Your Father doesn't see you as defiled and in need of purging. He sees you washed in the blood of the Lamb, standing before Him in the righteousness of Christ, already clean, already pure, already His beloved son in whom He is well pleased.
