"I've become vain and sinful caring about my appearance at this age."
How it sounds in your head: I should be focused on eternity, not my hair or makeup. It's SHALLOW to care about looking pretty when death is near. Godly women are supposed to be above this.
"Each young woman's turn came to go in to King Ahasuerus after she had completed twelve months' preparation, according to the regulations for the women, for thus were the days of their preparation apportioned: six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and preparations for beautifying women."
-- Esther 2:12Religion teaching that caring for your body is vanity, that holiness requires neglecting physical beauty, especially for 'serious' elderly women.
Church culture has shamed 'worldly' beauty for decades. She's been taught that caring about appearance = pride. At 90, it feels doubly foolish—why adorn a body about to die?
The King declares 'You are ALL fair, my love, there is NO flaw in you.' This isn't about age or perfection—it's about how the BELOVED sees the bride. God's delight in you doesn't expire with youth.
I REFUSE the lie that caring about my appearance is vain or sinful. IT IS WRITTEN: God ordained MONTHS of beauty preparation for Esther—He CELEBRATES beauty, not condemns it. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit at 90, worthy of honor and adornment. IT IS WRITTEN: I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)—that hasn't changed with age. The BARAK blessing includes being the 'head and not the tail'—I walk in DIGNITY, not shame. I am BEAUTIFUL in my Father's eyes, and I receive His delight.
The Father doesn't rebuke you for wanting to feel beautiful—He's the one who makes all things beautiful in His time. He sees you as the radiant bride, adorned and LOVED, wrinkles and all.
