"I need to fast and pray more before I'll have breakthrough authority"
How it sounds in your head: Jesus fasted forty days before ministry. The disciples couldn't cast out a demon and Jesus said, 'This kind comes out only by prayer and fasting.' You're not disciplined enough. Your authority is weak because your devotional life is weak.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
-- Ephesians 2:8-9Source: religion - works-based authority earned through spiritual disciplines
You've heard testimonies of people who got breakthrough after extended fasts, and your prayer life feels inconsistent. It seems logical that more discipline equals more power.
She had suffered twelve years, spent all her money on doctors, and was getting worse. She didn't fast forty days or pray through the night. She simply touched Jesus' garment in FAITH and was IMMEDIATELY healed. Jesus said, 'Your FAITH has made you well' - not 'your fasting' or 'your disciplines.'
I REFUSE the lie that authority is earned through fasting and prayer disciplines. IT IS WRITTEN that salvation and authority are by GRACE through FAITH, not of works. Jesus already GAVE me authority - I don't earn what's already given. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 5:17 that I have RECEIVED the gift of righteousness and REIGN in life through Christ Jesus. Fasting is a tool, not a ticket. I don't fast to GET breakthrough; I fast to ALIGN with breakthrough already mine. The BARAK blessing wasn't given to Abraham for perfect disciplines - it was given by COVENANT. I'm in that covenant, and authority flows from POSITION, not PERFORMANCE.
The Father isn't withholding authority until you rack up enough prayer hours - He already gave you FULL authority the moment you believed, and fasting is about enjoying what you already have, not earning what you don't. You're not a spiritual athlete trying to qualify; you're a son accessing your inheritance.
