"I need to be more discerning so this never happens again."
How it sounds in your head: You should have vetted them better. You should have been more cautious. Now you analyze every new person with suspicion, interrogating motives, looking for red flags. You call it wisdom, but it feels like exhausting hypervigilance.
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
-- Proverbs 3:5-6Religious spirit teaching that YOUR discernment protects you, not His covering, making you the savior of your own story.
Better discernment genuinely would have prevented some pain. You can now see warning signs you missed before, and heightened caution feels like mature wisdom rather than fear-based control.
Impulsively jumped out of the boat without 'discerning' the risk, started sinking when he looked at circumstances. Jesus didn't rebuke his lack of discernment—He IMMEDIATELY grabbed him, and they walked back to the boat together on the water.
I REFUSE the lie that MY discernment protects me. IT IS WRITTEN that I trust in the LORD and lean NOT on my own understanding—His direction protects me, not my hypervigilance. The weight of protection isn't on my shoulders; it's on His covenant. IT IS WRITTEN in Isaiah 54:17 that no weapon formed prospers—not because I detected it, but because I'm COVERED. The barak blessing protected Abraham even when he LACKED discernment and lied to kings. I don't need to be a perfect judge of character—I need to rest in His perfect covering. Right now, I'm releasing the exhausting burden of self-protection and receiving His supernatural direction that guides my steps without anxiety.
The Father isn't requiring you to become a human lie detector before releasing you into new relationships—He's your shield RIGHT NOW. Like Peter sinking, Jesus doesn't wait for you to swim better; He IMMEDIATELY grabs you and walks you through what you feared.
