"I must prove I'm 'not like those people' from my background to be accepted."
How it sounds in your head: You've spent decades distancing yourself from stereotypes about your culture. You code-switch, you overachieve, you bend over backward to prove you're 'different.' You're exhausted from performing, but you fear if you stop, people—maybe even God—will lump you in with negative perceptions.
"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well."
-- Psalm 139:14Source: internalized racism and religious perfectionism that makes acceptance conditional on assimilation and distancing from your own people.
She HAS been treated better when she 'acts less ethnic' and has faced judgment when she doesn't. The rewards for assimilation and punishment for authenticity have been consistent.
Esther HID her Jewish identity initially, passing as Persian. But when crisis came, Mordecai said 'You were made for such a time as THIS.' Her breakthrough came when she STOPPED hiding and declared 'I am a Jew.' Her ethnic identity became her INSTANT platform for deliverance.
I REFUSE the lie that I must distance myself from my heritage to be acceptable. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made—including my cultural identity. God doesn't require me to code-switch or assimilate. The BARAK blessing covers the REAL me, not a performing version. IT IS WRITTEN that man looks at outward appearance but God sees my heart—He loves what He sees without edits. I am the Father's beloved daughter, fully accepted in my authentic identity.
The Father is running toward you celebrating your FULL identity, not waiting for you to sand down your edges first. He saw Esther's Jewishness and said 'THAT'S the key'—your authenticity is His strategy.
