"I mocked Christians, persecuted believers; I'm on the wrong side of eternity."
How it sounds in your head: I ridiculed my mom's faith, mocked the youth group kids, made fun of Christians at work. I was on the ATTACK. How can God forgive someone who actively fought against His people? I was the enemy.
"although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief."
-- 1 Timothy 1:13Source: Enemy lie that past opposition creates permanent enmity with God, that you're too far on the 'other side' to cross back.
The active nature of your persecution—not just passive unbelief but aggressive mocking—feels like a line you can't uncross, especially seeing the pain you caused believers.
Saul was literally traveling city to city to arrest, imprison, and enable the murder of Christians—breathing threats and slaughter. Jesus appeared, called him, and within DAYS Paul was preaching Christ in synagogues—instant transformation from chief persecutor to chief apostle.
I REFUSE the lie that my past persecution has locked me out of God's family. IT IS WRITTEN that Paul was a blasphemer and persecutor but OBTAINED MERCY and became the primary author of the New Testament. Saul was murdering Christians and was preaching within days of conversion. IT IS WRITTEN there is no condemnation for me in Christ. I am Abraham's seed, blessed with the BARAK covenant of undeserved favor. The enemy wants my past to define my future. I am TRANSFORMED, CALLED, and my former opposition is the backdrop for God's greater glory.
Your Father isn't keeping a record of your mocking. He's already written your name in the Book of Life, and the bigger your opposition was, the MORE glorious your testimony will be—because He specializes in turning persecutors into preachers.
