"I invested my best years in people who abandoned me, and that relational capital is gone forever."
How it sounds in your head: You mentored guys who don't return calls. Poured into friendships that evaporated when you changed jobs or cities. Invested in people who used you and disappeared. All those relationships you thought were solid vanished, and you're too old to build that kind of depth again.
"So Jesus answered and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.'"
-- Mark 10:29-30Source: enemy using relational disappointment to create isolation, world teaching relationships as transactional investments with return expectations.
Specific people you invested years in genuinely aren't in your life anymore and don't maintain contact. Starting deep friendships at this age feels harder, and losses accumulate without obvious replacements.
Job lost everything including friends who accused him and a wife who told him to curse God and die—total relational devastation after decades of investment. When Job prayed for those who hurt him (not after they apologized, but while still wounded), the LORD restored DOUBLE everything instantly—new friendships, restored family, greater latter days than former.
I REFUSE the lie that relational investment in people who left was wasted. IT IS WRITTEN that I receive a hundredfold return NOW in this time—not someday, but in my present. Every seed of love I planted bears fruit, regardless of whether I see the harvest. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing multiplies my relational investments beyond my ability to track. IT IS WRITTEN that God sets the solitary in families. New relationships of depth are coming, and my latter friendships will be richer than my former because I'm finally free to love without transactional expectations.
The Father isn't calculating wasted relational capital or comparing your current friend count to earlier seasons. He's running toward you with the fattened calf, surrounding you with new brothers and sisters and mothers—hundredfold multiplication—celebrating that NOW you invest love freely without scorekeeping, which actually produces the depth you always wanted.
