"I haven't prayed enough, read enough, or done enough to deserve God's attention now."
How it sounds in your head: Others spent hours in prayer. Others memorized whole books. You skipped church. You didn't read through the Bible every year. Now that you need Him most, why would He prioritize you? You didn't invest enough in the relationship when you had time. It's too late to make up for decades of spiritual laziness.
"Then he said to Jesus, 'Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.' And Jesus said to him, 'Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.'"
-- Luke 23:42-43Religious performance theology teaching that God's response is proportional to human spiritual activity.
He can mentally calculate decades of sporadic church attendance, minimal prayer life, and biblical illiteracy. Compared to 'spiritual giants,' his resume feels empty, making God's attention feel undeserved at the moment he needs it most.
Manasseh was Judah's most wicked king - practiced witchcraft, sacrificed his own sons to demons, filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, rejected God for 55 years. In chains and affliction, he finally prayed ONE PRAYER. God heard him, brought him back to Jerusalem, and restored his kingdom. One prayer after 55 years of wickedness brought instant restoration.
I REFUSE the lie that God's attention is earned by spiritual activity. IT IS WRITTEN that the thief on the cross prayed ONE PRAYER and got Paradise - TODAY, not after proving himself. God's attention isn't proportional to my prayer hours. IT IS WRITTEN that while I was STILL A SINNER, Christ died for me. He didn't wait for me to get my devotional life together. Manasseh prayed once after 55 years of witchcraft and child sacrifice, and God IMMEDIATELY heard him. The BARAK blessing on Abraham wasn't dependent on his prayer life - it was covenant, and I'm in the BETTER covenant. I have the Father's full attention because I'm IN CHRIST, not because I earned it.
The Father is running toward you not checking your prayer log but celebrating that you're finally turning toward His voice. He's saying, 'I've been attentive to you EVERY moment of your 90 years, even when you ignored Me. You're My son, not My employee.'
