"I have to step aside so younger leaders can take over."
How it sounds in your head: It's selfish to hold your position when fresh blood could do more. You're blocking someone's opportunity by staying. The honorable thing is to decrease so they can increase. Gracefully exit before you're pushed out.
"They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing."
-- Psalm 92:14Religious spirit twisting John 3:30 (about Jesus) to pressure abdication of legitimate authority before completion.
Church leadership books preach succession planning and younger pastors are celebrated while older ones are pressured to retire. Corporations replace experience with cheaper labor. You feel the cultural push toward the exit.
When Caleb was 85, Joshua didn't tell him to step aside for younger warriors—he HONORED him and gave him the mountain he requested. Older warrior and younger leader partnered; nobody had to decrease.
I REFUSE the lie that I must step aside prematurely. IT IS WRITTEN that I shall STILL bear fruit in old age—fresh and FLOURISHING. God doesn't call me to shrink so others can grow. His Kingdom is ABUNDANCE, not scarcity. There's room for every generation to operate in full authority simultaneously. IT IS WRITTEN: 'The path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day' (Proverbs 4:18). I'm not DIMMING—I'm getting BRIGHTER. Like Caleb taking mountains at 85 while Joshua led, I partner with the next generation without surrendering the authority God gave ME.
The Father isn't asking you to step down—He's asking you to step UP into the elder authority that only comes with years. He's running toward you saying 'Stop listening to voices telling you to shrink. I'm EXPANDING your territory because now you can steward it with wisdom nobody younger has earned yet.'
