"I have to maintain a certain level of devotion or God's blessing will lift."
How it sounds in your head: I've seen God move before, but if I'm honest, my quiet times have been inconsistent. I'm not reading like I was. I feel distant. What if His blessing was conditional on my devotion and I've let it slip?
"For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
-- Hebrews 13:5Source: religious teaching that God's presence and blessing are attracted by your spiritual disciplines and repelled by your neglect.
She's experienced seasons where she felt close to God and things seemed to flow, and seasons where she felt distant and things fell apart. The correlation feels like causation, like God's favor follows her devotion.
Israel grumbled, built a golden calf, rebelled repeatedly for 40 years. God's response? 'You in Your great mercy did not forsake them in the wilderness... forty years You sustained them in the wilderness, they lacked nothing.' They complained; He provided. They rebelled; He sustained. His faithfulness didn't track their devotion.
I REFUSE the lie that God's blessing depends on my devotion level. IT IS WRITTEN that He will NEVER leave me nor forsake me—not 'rarely leave' or 'leave when I slip,' but NEVER. His presence is not a performance prize; it's a covenant PROMISE. IT IS WRITTEN that His gifts and calling are IRREVOCABLE, which means He doesn't take back what He's given me when I have a bad week. I am held by His faithfulness, not mine. The BARAK blessing operated even when Abraham LIED, even when Jacob DECEIVED—not because they were devoted, but because GOD IS FAITHFUL.
The Father isn't keeping a tally of your quiet times, ready to withdraw when you hit a slump. He's not that petty or insecure. He's the One who RAN to the prodigal who hadn't prayed in MONTHS, who'd been face-down in a pig pen, who showed up with NOTHING—and threw him a party anyway. Your intimacy with Him is based on His grip on you, not your grip on Him.
