"I have to identify with my condition to manage it properly and stay safe."
How it sounds in your head: If I stop calling myself 'a celiac' or 'an asthmatic,' I might forget to be careful. The diagnosis keeps me safe. Identifying with it isn't negative—it's being responsible. Rejecting the label feels dangerous.
"For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."
-- Colossians 3:3Enemy twisting legitimate medical awareness into identity bondage, making disease management require identification with sickness.
Medical professionals emphasize patient education and self-advocacy, which in practice means learning to identify as the condition to get proper care. Safety concerns make the disease label feel protective rather than limiting.
They were AWARE of the furnace's danger—they could have identified as 'furnace victims' and bowed to save themselves. Instead they identified as God's servants and walked into the fire. The flames didn't touch them, their clothes didn't smell like smoke, and the king promoted them—refusing to identify with danger resulted in complete protection.
I REFUSE the lie that I must identify with disease to stay safe. IT IS WRITTEN that my life is hidden with Christ in God—not in disease management, not in diagnosis. I can be AWARE without making sickness my IDENTITY. I am not 'a diabetic' or 'a celiac'—I am a daughter of the King who currently monitors blood sugar or avoids gluten, but my LIFE is hidden in Him where disease cannot define me. IT IS WRITTEN that He gives His angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways—my safety comes from Him, not from identifying with sickness. The BARAK blessing protects me coming in and going out, the same covenant that kept Abraham safe through famines and battles. I manage wisely while identifying ONLY with whose I am.
Your Father sees you terrified to reject the disease label, afraid safety requires identification with sickness—and He's running toward you declaring, 'Your safety is in MY NAME, not in disease identity! I protected three men in a furnace; I can protect you without you becoming the diagnosis.' He's planning your freedom party while you're still clutching the medical ID for security.
