"I have to forgive my parents before God will move in my life or relationships."
How it sounds in your head: Every sermon says it: 'Unforgiveness blocks your breakthrough.' You know you should forgive them, but the anger feels righteous—they actually did damage you. So you're stuck: can't genuinely forgive yet, can't move forward until you do. God's waiting on you to get your heart right.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religion weaponizing forgiveness as WORKS requirement, making your breakthrough depend on YOUR performance rather than Christ's finished work.
Matthew 6:15 gets quoted constantly: 'If you don't forgive, neither will your Father forgive you.' Sounds like God's hands are tied by your unforgiveness. Plus, the bitterness feels real, like spiritual poison everyone says blocks blessing.
Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery, lied to their father about his death, caused 13+ years of prison and pain. Yet BEFORE Joseph 'processed forgiveness,' God made him second in Egypt, saved nations from famine, and fulfilled his dreams. God moved massively while Joseph still had every human right to bitterness.
I REFUSE the lie that my forgiveness unlocks God's forgiveness or blessing. IT IS WRITTEN that He has ALREADY forgiven me all trespasses—past tense, finished work, nothing held back waiting on my emotional readiness. God isn't frozen by my unforgiveness; He's already moving, already blessing, already working all things together for my good. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in every area, head not tail, lender not borrower—the BARAK doesn't wait for my heart to catch up to His grace. I forgive my parents not to EARN breakthrough but because I've ALREADY RECEIVED IT. The Father ran to me while I still smelled like pigs—He's not waiting for me to clean up my emotions before He throws the party.
The Father already forgave you completely before you forgave anyone, before you even knew you needed it—while you were still His enemy. He's not waiting on your forgiveness journey to bless you; He's blessing you IN it, running toward you with the robe and ring while you're still rehearsing your 'make me a servant' speech.
