"I have to forgive my abuser before God will forgive or bless me."
How it sounds in your head: They tell me I have to forgive to be free, but I'm not ready. Does that mean God won't forgive me? Is my bitterness blocking my blessings? Am I stuck until I can let it go?
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Old Covenant teaching applied post-cross; religious manipulation uses Matthew 6:15 to burden the wounded instead of free them.
She's heard Matthew 6:15 weaponized a hundred times—'If you don't forgive, neither will your Father forgive you.' The trauma is real, the wound is deep, and the pressure to 'just forgive' feels like revictimization.
The thief had zero time to forgive anyone, make amends, or process trauma. He simply believed, and Jesus said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise.' Instant forgiveness, instant heaven, zero prerequisites—no forgiveness checklist required.
I REFUSE the lie that God's forgiveness of me is conditional on my forgiveness of others. IT IS WRITTEN that He has forgiven me ALL trespasses, nailed to the cross, FINISHED. I am not held hostage by my ability to forgive—I am FREE in Christ's finished work. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. My blessings flow from COVENANT, not my emotional readiness. I am Abraham's seed, blessed coming in and going out. I will forgive when the Holy Spirit leads me in HIS timing, not under religious pressure. I am already fully loved, fully forgiven, fully blessed RIGHT NOW.
The Father sees your wound and isn't adding a 'forgiveness assignment' on top of it. He's holding you, whispering 'You are SAFE. You are LOVED. And nothing—not even your pain—separates you from Me.' He's not waiting for you to perform forgiveness—He's healing you WITH forgiveness as you rest in His arms. Forgiveness will come as FRUIT, not as a prerequisite.
