"I have to earn the right to feel peace about my past"
How it sounds in your head: Peace feels like a luxury I haven't paid for yet. Maybe after I've suffered enough, proven enough, made enough amends—then I'll have earned the right to rest. But not yet. Not until the scales balance.
"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
-- John 14:27Source: Works-based religion that makes peace a reward for performance rather than a gift of grace received by faith.
His entire life has been about earning—respect, income, status, security. The idea that peace could be FREE feels like cheating the system, like taking something he hasn't worked for, which violates his deepest values about merit and worth.
Hanging on a cross, zero time to make amends or prove transformation, nothing left to offer but faith. Jesus said, 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise'—instant peace, immediate acceptance, full rest despite having earned nothing and proven nothing.
I REFUSE the lie that peace must be earned through suffering or penance. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus GIVES His peace—not as the world gives, not based on merit. Peace is not my achievement; it's His gift. I receive it NOW, not after I've paid enough or proven enough. IT IS WRITTEN that His peace surpasses understanding—it makes no sense to my works-based mind, and that's the point. I stand in the BARAK blessing, at peace with God through the blood of Jesus. My heart is not troubled, not afraid. I am at rest—this moment, this breath, covered by grace.
The Father isn't holding peace hostage until you balance some cosmic ledger. He's offering it to you RIGHT NOW, with open hands, the same way He offered it to a dying criminal who had nothing to give and no time to prove himself. Peace isn't the finish line—it's the starting block.
