"I have to earn the right to eat by exercising or being good enough"
How it sounds in your head: Every meal comes with mental math - did I work out enough? Was I disciplined today? You can't enjoy food without guilt unless you've 'paid' for it first. Rest feels like laziness; pleasure feels like sin.
"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
-- Matthew 6:26Religion + world - diet culture makes you earn everything, hustle culture glorifies exhaustion, religious teaching that rest must be earned by work
Every fitness app, every influencer, every magazine says calories in/calories out, earn your treats, no pain no gain. You've been taught that grace is lazy and discipline is godly, so rest and enjoyment feel like moral failures.
Elijah was exhausted, depressed, and running away when an angel woke him with fresh bread and water - twice. God didn't lecture him about earning it or making better choices; He fed him tenderly and let him sleep, then fed him again before the journey.
I REFUSE the lie that I must earn the right to eat or that my body is a machine requiring payment for fuel. IT IS WRITTEN that my Father feeds the birds who do not work for it, and I am of far more value than they. Food is not wages; it is GRACE. I do not have to pay for pleasure with punishment or earn rest through exhaustion. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus calls me to come to Him when I am weary, and He will give me rest - not after I've earned it, but because I am His. The BARAK blessing means I am blessed coming in and going out, in eating and in resting. I receive nourishment as a daughter, not a debtor.
The Father isn't keeping a ledger of your calories and workouts - He's preparing bread for you like He did for Elijah, feeding you with tenderness when you're exhausted. He invites you to His table not because you've earned a seat but because you're His beloved child.
